Hello Rabbi.
When do we say a mitzvah that comes with a transgression and when do we say a do that is abhorrent and a do not?

There are several explanations for this in the Rishonim. I mainly remember Rabbeinu David on Pesachim, who brings several methods in this regard. For example, he made a docha lat only when the mitzvah is at the time of the transgression. It is invalid from the BA only when the mitzvah comes to be fulfilled. From the BA it is only theft. And so on, this is the way.
