About the Ministry of Lack of Education
In a brace
Hello Rabbi.
You spoke in one of the columns about the conduct of the matriculation exams today. Why, in the Rabbi’s opinion, is it even necessary to take the matriculation exam today if it is possible to take academic courses at the Open University in high school or later and then be accepted for degrees that you are not interested in?
Thank you in advance.
Who said it was necessary? Yes, it is worth giving students thinking tools and education. In what way? There are all kinds. Is it specifically a high school diploma? Of course not.
I didn't understand the question.
1. How can a high school student apply for degrees in difficult subjects at the O&M, if he hasn't experienced matriculation-level exams?
2. What about those who won't continue on to university, isn't the system responsible for providing them with a minimum education?
Let's divide the subjects into essential and tactical, let's say that Bible is studied in high school to know the Bible, while mathematics is studied to sharpen thinking. So –
3. Is there no importance in studying the essential subjects in order to gain minimal knowledge, assuming that students will not access these subjects through the O&M, such as the subject of Bible and literature?
4. And in tactical subjects – Is there another way to sharpen thinking and analysis? Maybe teach chess instead of mathematics? But since we need operational measurement tools, we are back to some kind of test.
I didn't understand what the claim was, and what the alternative was.
This debate is delusional and I don't understand who is against whom. I said that education and thinking tools should be provided. I added that in relation to the question of what is the way, and does it have to be done through a matriculation exam? My answer is that not necessarily. It's not that complicated, and I don't see any connection whatsoever to anything you added here.
If you expected me to lay out a systematic pedagogical change here on how to provide education and thinking skills, that's not what you asked (you asked whether you have to take a matriculation exam) and this is not the place to do it.
And if you're talking about the admission requirements for a university, that's a completely technical question. Call and find out what the admission requirements are, and if you need a matriculation exam for that - then take a matriculation exam. What is the discussion here about?
