What does the rabbi recommend a 14-year-old child study? The child is smart, sharp. What books do the rabbi consider “basic” books?

The question is unclear. Are you talking about studying Torah?

Torah study

Well, here there are matters of worldview of course and not only in a didactic way. In my opinion, studying Torah is only scholarship and halacha. Morality, Tanakh and thought are not of great value (I call it Torah in its entirety. In my opinion, it is like studying philosophy or other fields of knowledge).
Therefore, what is important is to develop one's scholarship and academic abilities in studying halacha. To this end, it is appropriate to devote most of the hours to studying ayun (after a little time spent dealing with the text itself), and next to that a little time for general proficiency.
