Dome

Hello Rabbi Michael!
Why do we continue to wear a kippah/not increase its size to the size prescribed in halakhah? So many people do not wear the “head covering” prescribed in halakhah.
Is it because the religious public is still largely interested in sectoralism?
What do you think about the kippah and can we say a blessing without the kippah we wear today?
Thank you in advance.

I didn’t understand what halakhic lesson you were referring to. Some believe that blessing a kippah with a veil is an actual halakhic prohibition. I’m not convinced, but we certainly haven’t deviated from the rule of custom.

The lesson I talked about regarding the kippah is a head covering that is visible from all sides. Second, how is it that we wear a kippah that is not considered the head covering spoken of in the halakha, is it actually a continuation of the custom? After all, the custom is based on a certain lesson that we do not adhere to today. I would be happy if you answered another question of mine: Why do we still wear a kippah? It increasingly divides the people and puts us in a box and mold. Thank you.

My answer:
I do not know where you got this lesson from. There is such an opinion (Rabbi Kluger), but it is controversial. Some have written that it should be visible from all sides, but I do not know of any evidence for this and it is not agreed upon.
What is customary today to wear a kippah is either out of reverence for God (this is how the original custom is usually explained) or as a sign that distinguishes the religious person. The fact that it divides the people is excellent. There is a point in dividing on this basis. Even keeping Shabbat and eating kosher divide the people. I have no interest in giving up my identity to unite with someone who is behaving improperly. And if it bothers someone, let them run.
