Eulogy when eulogy is not allowed
Hello Rabbi,
Many times people come to a funeral on a day when, according to Halacha, eulogies are forbidden. Then someone comes to give the eulogy, usually the first or the one leading the eulogy, and says that although today we are not giving eulogies, we will say farewell words. Or we will say words of encouragement. And then they say exactly the same eulogy that they would say on a day when eulogies are allowed.
What does the rabbi think about this?

Indeed, this is an accepted phenomenon. In principle, one should be careful to say things that do not provoke tears but rather a farewell and awakening to the public. If one does this, then it seems permissible by law. In particular, eulogies are given to great people even these days, and the question is who is a great person. In short, it is not recommended, but it is acceptable and not terrible in my opinion.
