Good qualities?
Hello Rabbi
Are virtues a value? It is likely that they are not a value in themselves. If so, how can one claim that humility, for example, is good while pride is bad, etc.?

I didn’t understand the question. Those who think that these are values (in my opinion, they are indeed so) see that they have value in themselves. Good manners are not just a means to proper behavior. On the contrary, they are the more fundamental goal. Behavior is only a byproduct. Therefore, good behavior for ulterior or improper motives would not be considered, in my opinion, as ethical behavior. The motivation (= the manners) is missing, and without it there is no morality and no values.
By the way, I once wrote here to challenge the well-known question of the Maharsh in Shaari Kedusha why we were not commanded to correct our manners. And I challenged him that adhering to the manners of the Blessed One is a mitzvah that is as well-known as the mitzvah of all the mitzvahs, so what is the problem? My answer is that the mitzvah is to follow the ways of the Blessed One, for He has no manners in the human sense. Therefore, the mitzvah tells us to behave like Him. But the Maharsh assumes that there is also an obligation to correct our manners, regardless of behavior. To this he asks why we were not commanded. The answers to this are known and well-known.
