Is ‘truth’ a judgment?

שו”תCategory: philosophyIs ‘truth’ a judgment?
asked 8 years ago

Hello Rabbi,
Does the Rabbi think that the sentence ‘this statement is approaching the truth’ is true?
That is, the sentence “true” is a judgment like “beautiful” or “good”?
Is ‘truth’ an idea and we are trying to get closer to it, and if so, just as one can say A is more beautiful than B, so can one say A is more true than B?

This is slang for saying that this claim is largely true (its truth value is close to 1). Claims in everyday language should not be discussed in a rigid logical manner.

Leaving aside the slang, is it possible that 'truth' is a judgment like beauty or goodness?

Why not? I didn't understand the question.

I don't know, I read it in Rabbi Dessler's book and I wanted to know if the Rabbi agrees with it.
Usually, a statement is treated as ’truth’ in an absolute and not relative way.
For example: the statement ” There is a God”, it is both true and false.
It does not ‘exist’ like all existing things, because ‘existence’ is a created attribute, but if we say ”God does not exist” it would also be true but ‘inferior’.

Do you understand what you read there? Do you have a side that is not right? What is the point of this question?
No sentence is both true and false. You are simply using the term “is” in two different meanings. [By the way, I also do not understand what it means that existence is a created attribute. An attribute is not an entity, and therefore it is not created. Existing entities are created, but not existence itself]

Apparently, the meaning is that the concept of ”existence” is only found in our consciousness and this concept cannot be attributed to the source of consciousness, about which nothing can be said.
This is a Kantian statement.
