Keeping your distance

The question of how you hit that car if you kept your distance has been bothering me for a long time.

First, who said I kept my distance? Second, there was a blur between the lanes, and the one in front of me was actually driving in the lane next to me on the right. When a female driver entered from his side, he swerved into the lane in front of me and braked.
You said you saved it, right there in the linked response.
Regarding the deviation from the path, I had a suspicion that this was the case.
