On forgiveness

שו”תCategory: HalachaOn forgiveness

Hello Rabbi. The month of Elul, etc., the Sephardim are already saying Selichot. Personally, Selichot doesn’t do anything for me, they mostly annoy me.
I asked and asked – is the whole purpose of the selichot to awaken in repentance and then if this goal is not achieved there is no point in the shared murmurings and songs of the Egavim (and perhaps everyone should awaken in repentance in ways that benefit them), or is it like prayer that it is not at all relevant what you feel and you have to say it because that is what was established/practiced?
Thank you very much.

It’s not a law but a custom. If it doesn’t do anything for you, then in my opinion it has no value. It might be important if you try, it will still help you to devote some time to matters of self-examination and repentance. But if not, then no.
