Prayer for wisdom
I was always taught that Torah is acquired through hard work, but also through prayer, whether in joint prayers to ask Hashem to grant me the Torah, or in prayer when I don’t understand something and I want to know. I heard a story (and if you think it has no basis, simply ignore the question – because I understand and accept your approach to stories) about someone asking a difficult question to the most knowledgeable person in Judah, and he had a hard time, and he told him that he would get back to him. In the meantime, the questioner asked the Rabbi of the House of the Lord in the same place, and the Rabbi of the House of the Lord didn’t know either, and he was terribly ashamed and went into his room for nearly half an hour, praying with tears to Hashem to strengthen him, and his gates of wisdom were opened, and he went and gave the answer to the questioner that same day. After three days of mental labor, the scholar in Judah also had an answer – exactly the same one, and he went to tell the questioner the answer, only the questioner explained to him that on that day it had already been answered by the Av Beit Din. And the scholar in Judah found it amazing, so he went to ask him how he managed to solve the question so quickly, and he told him what happened – and the scholar in Judah’s response was: “It’s not worth it, I achieved the answer through the labor of the Torah.” Again, assuming there is a whiff of truth in the story, what do you think of it?
