Is there any benefit in reciting Psalms for healing or salvation?

In my opinion, no. And perhaps there is even a prohibition in this (depending on whether you think the statement will be useful or if it is just the language in which you have chosen to address God with your requests. A strange decision in itself, because a chapter of Psalms never truly formulates what you want). See column 392.

I read the column and it's a little unclear to me because the Torah itself sometimes makes promises about certain commandments, such as "Honor your father so that your days may be long."

The ”for” is not in the sense of for. If you honor, your days will be prolonged. The question of whether to do for the sake of longevity is a different discussion (it is a mitzvah, not for its own sake). Giving charity so that my children may live, etc.
