Question about a crime in its own right

שו”תCategory: Talmudic studyQuestion about a crime in its own right
asked 8 years ago

Hello,

It seems to me that in all the examples given in the article “Concerning a crime for its own sake” here, it was women who committed the crime for its own sake, and the crime is also related to the prohibitions of marriage. Are there other examples of a crime for its own sake? Is there any significance to this common denominator?

With thanks,

Since there is only one issue in Shas on this, I don’t think you will find any more examples. But I see no reason to distinguish between prohibitions of entry and other offenses. I assume that more examples can be found in the commentators and poskim, but here there is room for the rabbis to disagree on whether there is indeed a reason to distinguish. I don’t see any.
