Read Kafka
Hello Rabbi,
Assuming you know the story with Kafka, that he asked that his writings not be published but they still found all sorts of justifications to publish them, etc…
I’m really struggling with this question of whether it’s okay to read his writings.
I wanted to know a. What is the position of the halakha on such a subject? b. Considering the separation you make between halakha and morality, what is your moral position?
I tried to do the math myself and in the meantime I’m refraining from continuing to read it, even though I’m very curious. I thought maybe I’m being strict and there’s really nothing wrong with that, he’s no longer here to suffer from the intrusion of intimate materials or anything like that.
And on the other hand, I’m afraid of making it easier for myself with rationalizations and assumptions.
thanks
