The Sages of Israel Against the Bullies
Before the destruction of the Second Temple, thugs were active in Jerusalem who fought the Romans and claimed that this was the correct method. How can we know that they were indeed wrong? Perhaps they really should have fought the Romans and thus the Temple would not have been destroyed? (Perhaps because of their dedication, God would have performed miracles as in the time of the Hasmoneans?)

That is, if we put Abba Sikra opposite Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai. Is there any reason to think that maybe the bullies were right??? And Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai has authority only in the field of conduct!!!???
And in our terms – If we put the Minister of Defense opposite Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai then Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai has authority only in the field of conduct??? Who would think of such a thing??? This is how we learn the words of Chazal??
And in matters of daily life – If we put the Minister of Health or Professor Barbash or Mr. “Projector” Corona opposite Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky then Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky has authority only in the field of conduct??
As is known, Yiftach is in his generation as Samuel is in his generation. And Rabbi Chaim decides the fates of people before surgeries. And as was expressed by Anh Daho, Rabbi Chaim has no knowledge of medicine but he has knowledge of the higher worlds.
*(Mr. Gorlin, you are unnecessary in this discussion. Please do not intervene!)
Oh, I forgot to add…
Of course you will argue “instead of desecrating the ’ one does not show respect to the rabbi”
Maybe, God forbid, we will also accuse Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai of desecrating the ’ because of which the Temple was destroyed??
May God protect us from such thoughts…
In the year 21, 1941, Torah scholars usually consult with the most senior experts, whether in the medical or political-military fields, in order to obtain reliable professional information. If there are differences of opinion between the experts or a halakhic problem in the outline they propose, then a decision must be made by the halakhic adjudicators.
The ’bullies’ were the complete opposite of ’experts’, and did the complete opposite of what needed to be done to succeed. Jerusalem had reserves of food, water, and wood that could withstand a siege for many years, so it was possible to exhaust the Romans with a prolonged siege and force them to reach a reasonable compromise.
Instead, the thugs burned the treasures to bring about an immediate war with the Romans, but achieved the opposite, the defenders of Jerusalem were weakened by hunger and had no strength left to fight the Romans, as if wondering: Can people who chew hay and drink their own water withstand war?
Even in dealing with the Corona virus, we must beware of total lockdowns, which cause hunger and demoralization, and seek cautious and reasonable measures that will allow us to slow and reduce the spread of the Corona virus until vaccines and medicines are found. Prof. Gamzo seems to understand this. It is hoped that there will be a proper dialogue between him and representatives of the Haredi public that will lead to appropriate solutions.
Best regards, Sh”t
In one thing we have already seen that Prof. Gamzo was guided by the opinion of the rabbi. Gamzo expressed regret that at the beginning of the ‘interim period’ the young people returned home from the yeshiva and with the increase in crowding the risk of infection increased. This is exactly what the rabbi argued in late Adar, that studies in the yeshiva should not be canceled. Perhaps we can arrange a meeting between the professor and the rabbi, ‘and everything will fall into place peacefully’?
With best wishes, Sh”t
What a comparison between a Tahsin who does not know his right hand and left in the affairs of the present [and I write this in praise!],
and a Tahsin during a time of strife who decided that human life was preferable to humiliation in submission.
The concept invented by Man Daho that he would open in his generation, or even Samuel in his generation, would decide matters they do not know is a baseless invention, even if Man Daho said so
This is not exactly an understanding of the issues of Avh”z. Incidentally, a debate of this kind took place in the Warsaw Ghetto before the uprising, and there is some ambiguity regarding Rabbi Menachem Zamba's position on this. I believe it was Zionists (religious and secular) versus the Haredi rabbinical leadership.
A. Well, B. Unlike my previous problem regarding the breaking of the tablets, there is a serious discussion going on here. And no one is claiming that the discussion is delusional. (It is fortunate that Gurlin did not intervene in the meantime.)
B. The venerable Nur – never said that ”He will open in his generation as a Moel in his generation”, this is an explicit Gemara. He said that the ger”ch does not understand medicine but knows what is happening in the higher worlds. (By the way, in a different way, the prophet also did not consult with doctors but guided them in performing the surgery even though he never studied medicine. And sometimes he exempted people from medical recommendations that were given to them. Of course, by observing from afar)
C. The view that ”He who takes advice from the elders does not fail” And they will even tell you that the right is the left and the left is the right. It is also not new. And the miracles are known to people who consult with the sages at every step.
D. Sh”tz – (You should change these terrible rabbis) – With each passing day, the clear opinion of the rabbi becomes clearer as you mentioned. Also the fact that although our situation today is worse than the first wave – the state the Corona Committee the great experts – are doing their best to keep the education system functioning so that parents can go to work and no one even dreams of doing a lockdown!!!
Not to mention the gathering of thousands at left-wing demonstrations that are permitted compared to prayers and weddings.
And did we already mention that decisions on restrictions are made by pulling them out of their waists???
But what?? In the first wave, the public was hysterical (and that's what Bibi wanted), while Rabbi Kanievsky was not hysterical. That's the whole difference!!

Letzhai – Shalom Rav,
The disagreements among doctors remain. Some lean towards a lockdown, such as Prof. Grotto, Prof. Sadetzky and Prof. Schwatz. Some lean completely to the side of protecting risk groups, such as Prof. Les, Prof. Kimron and others. And in the middle are Prof. Gamzo, Prof. Rothstein and Prof. Levy, who prefer personal hygiene and reducing gatherings over a lockdown.
With best wishes, Sh”tz
Complaints to the initials of my name should be directed to my great-grandfather, R’ Moshe Roth (Rata), the grocery store owner in the village of ‘Katina’ in Transylvania, who named his son (he is my mother's father) after ‘Shimshon Zvi’ 🙂
Only after Tzachi's comment did I notice that Shabbat stands for Shabtai Zvi. And I say this as someone who has wasted too many minutes of his life on (among other things) reading a very strange book by Ya'av'etz in which he brings all sorts of documentation about Shabtai Zvi's exploits. The main thing I remember from there is that Shabtai Zvi was attributed with an extraordinary capacity for Kabbalistic innovation, and the most successful example there (aside from the above regarding the quality of the content attributed there to that Messiah) is that Shabtai Zvi gave them a sermon on the campaign that every holiday is a Sabbath and has a Sabbath Sabbath on top of it, Sukkot has Shemini Atzeret, Passover has Shavuot, Rosh Hashana has Yom Kippur, and who is the Sabbath that sits above all the Sabbath Sabbaths? He is Shabtai (that's how he wrote his name) who is Shabtai+Y, who includes ten sephirot and he presides over the battalion like a king when soldiers will prevail because Sabbath is above Sabbath and Shabtai Zvi is above them. As a matter of fact, I don't think there is a question here of the name of the wicked rotting, because the names in the Bible preceded the Creator, and He came at their limit.
The Sabbath has its place, of course, but from that book by Ya'avetz (which also discusses Ramachal, among other things), I at least was unable to understand at all what its ideological appeal was.
And if you'll excuse my rant, I'll point out that the phrase "I say this as" is usually misused. Caroline Glick wrote recently that there is an entire wing of American Jews who, in their writing, are not "Jews" but "as Jews." In other words, they use Jewish identity to add force to an attack on Israel. There may be confirmation bias here, but I certainly see a great many Jews in all sorts of places who quite unequivocally interpret everything against Israel's official position. I think I saw recently that even a well-dressed lady like Rashid Tlaib has a Jewish communications consultant.

L’ – Shalom Rav,
The quasi-Kabbalist preaching of the Shabtai came to legitimize the religious conversion of Shabtai Zvi, which was followed by thousands of Jews who converted to Islam. Even those who did not follow him to the point of religious conversion – developed various and strange theories that the ’righteous of the generation’ is allowed to ‘descend to the kelpit’ and commit offenses in order to ‘extract sparks’ from the kelpit. One of the origins of these concepts was the Jacob Frank sect, who went so far as to commit incest in order to ‘extract sparks from the kelpit’ and ended up becoming Christians. In short: a cult of personality, using the style of Kabbalistic sermons to justify the most serious offenses.
And Annan Bedin, we recommend that on these hot summer days, take a fresh juicy fruit, and savor the sage sweetness between its peels, and especially the holy fruits of the Land of the Deer, which is a ‘Shabbat’ in relation to all lands 🙂
With greetings, Shimshon Zvi
The conversion was a late “coercion” as far as I know. The Kabbalistic sermon came to establish the uniqueness of the Messiah (whose longing for his arrival was essentially the whole point), and he himself – at least according to the aforementioned book (Torat Kanae) – was presented as a great Kabbalist, above all blessings. The problem is that the examples in that book are really so ridiculously poor that I could pull out ten of them every hour while I sleep.

Lt’ – Shalom Rav,
I have never gone into an in-depth investigation into the reason for the fascination that Shabbat Zvi had with his contemporaries, but it is possible that he had extensive knowledge of Kabbalah literature, a quick ability to perform Kabbalistic sermon acrobatics, a vast mastery of this literature and its concepts, and apparently ‘he had it’.
It is also possible that there were strong personal qualities that brought those who met him to the feeling that they were standing before a superior man. It is difficult to define what exactly gives a person the ’charisma’ that makes him an object of admiration by many and good. And when ’charisma’ is the one that appears in the gematria ‘ar’ It led to an unprecedented mass awakening to repentance in anticipation of redemption – it was possible to assume that such an overwhelming personality would lead the people towards redemption.
The problem was that when he was forced to convert for fear of being judged as a rebel in the kingdom – the ’charisma‘ turned ’evil’. Instead of admitting failure, the compulsion that was done out of danger to lives – Shabtai Zvi and his followers made of the fall an ‘ideology’ of ‘transgression for the sake of a mitzvah’, and brought about mass extermination and the training of every abomination on the grounds of ‘clearing out sparks from the shell’ and thus they became a disgrace.
In short: ‘charisma’ Requires caution. It can inspire to the heights of good but on the other hand degenerate into the abysses of evil.
Best regards, Shimshon Tabia
On the level of statements, all of the above is agreed upon and more. Such a powerful and sweeping movement must be accompanied by a coherent theology, and perhaps there are some points of view there (the Harmach himself testified that he ate a pomegranate from the words of Nathan the Bold) and I only know the history and not the philosophy. But *according to the above book*, which contains testimonies from the people of that time as copied by the Ya'avetz, that Kabbalistic sermonic acrobatics that cast a spell on the listeners is nothing more than tying a thread with a thread, like a scythe on top of each floor, and in particular I saw there a scandal in the practical use of gematria for every purpose. I don't have the patience now to read the aforementioned book again, but anyone interested in seeing embarrassing clowning should go to the aforementioned book and be amazed to their hearts' content.
