The Shtreimel of Abraham our father. To laugh or to cry?

A public personal question.
I have a neighbor who is a famous rabbi and a famous rabbi.
He publishes many books on matters of halacha, agga, shtetl leadership, etc., and teaches in a yeshiva in Jerusalem.
In his books, he often brings up ancient books [Chasidism and Hasidic stories…] strange things, and when I read I am satisfied, is it that when he writes this he bursts into laughter [a wise man with two feet on the ground] and enjoys trolling… [even though these are Torah books and his name and honor are signed on them, and that is how he is identified in public] or is there some innocence in him with stupidity…?
When I try to talk to him about it, he smiles, but it’s hard to tell if he’s laughing all the way to the bank [you don’t lose money selling books] or if it’s amusing but in his eyes an absolute truth…
 
For example: a tzaddik who meets Abraham our father at the Western Wall with a shtreimel gartel and a kafta, and according to this one can decide whether one should wear a shtreimel on Asrul Hajj… all sorts of strange and ridiculous things like that…
This is repeated over and over again in his books. Such nonsense and even funnier than that…
 
I actually have a Nefkom. He is a neighbor and humbly answers questions to anyone who asks…
It’s quiet.
The question is whether one can trust judgment?
