To lie without hurting

Hello Rabbi,
There is a section in the IDF where certain soldiers make a small scratch on their head to show the doctor that they have a scar and receive a hair exemption.
Is there a moral problem with this? After all, no one is really hurt by this, but it still feels a bit crooked.

This is a lie, and a lie is a problematic thing. On the other hand, the army’s demand for a certain haircut seems quite capricious to me, so I don’t see a prohibition in it. The power is in the army’s hands, and all you can do to defend yourself is lie. Of course, all this is about things that don’t harm military performance or your comrades or anyone else.
