Using a human shield to protect our forces

שו”תCategory: generalUsing a human shield to protect our forces
asked 1 year ago

An investigation was published today in Haaretz (assuming the investigation is correct, of course) according to which the IDF is using Gazan civilians who have not been proven to be connected to terrorist acts or anything like that as human shields, meaning they are being rushed first into detection areas/tunnels, etc., so that if, God forbid, something happens, our soldiers will not be injured.
Assuming that this is the only way to maximize the protection of our soldiers, do you think this is morally justified or not? (I don’t know if the IDF pays them and if they do it voluntarily or not, and what’s in it seems irrelevant to the question itself.)

Completely justified. Even killing them if necessary.

How is this justified?
Is it moral to kill people without checking whether they are guilty?!
The judge of the whole land will not hold a trial?!
Would the rabbi say the same thing even if children or women from Gaza were taken as human shields,
or only about males?
What makes the killing of innocent people (and the assumption is that any person who has not been proven to be evil is considered innocent) moral?
And if the rabbi says it is moral, then why do we scold them for their cynical and ugly use of innocent civilians as human shields?
Isn't there hypocrisy here?

And what will the Rabbi say about the statement: “For God hears the voice of the young man in the place where he is,”
Sharshi interprets: “Where he is, he is judged by the deeds he is doing now, and not by what he will do in the future, since the ministering angels were rebuking him and saying, “Master of the universe, you are raising a well for him who is about to kill your children with thirst.” And he asks them now what he is, righteous or wicked, they say to him, righteous. He said to them, “According to his deeds now, I judge him, and this is where he is.”

Before the cries of discord, it is worth using your mind for a moment.
Who spoke of punishment? No one kills them as punishment. If there is no choice but to kill them in order to defend themselves and/or win the war, it is permissible and they should be killed. What does this have to do with guilt? And is a small persecutor guilty? And yet they kill him because he threatens us. They kill them as a persecutor and not as a punishment. See my article here:

I have no problem with their use of civilians as human shields. I have a complaint against them for complaining about killing civilians afterwards, and I have a complaint against the world and us for considering this shield and these blunders. By the way, this is exactly what makes them use civilians as shields.
It is worth adopting morals that are based in the head and not in the stomach.

Dd and Rabbi Mikhi are talking about two different things. Dd wrote that the IDF is using Palestinians as human shields, while Rabbi Mikhi wrote that Hamas is using them as human shields.

It's the same thing. I referred to both.

Using enemy civilians as human shields is a war crime par excellence, even when fighting a democratically elected regime. Shame.

Rabbi Michi, are you also talking about civilians who have no part in the fighting against us?
And if so, why?

I referred to my article on the matter. Read it there.
