Voting for the disabled/double envelopes

שו”תVoting for the disabled/double envelopes
asked 3 years ago

I study in Jerusalem and live far from home and I don’t have the time/energy to spend an entire day just to go vote. Am I allowed to go vote at the disabled/double envelope polling station? (From a legal perspective, it’s a criminal offense to go vote there if you’re not really disabled or something) assuming that if I don’t vote there then I won’t go vote at all (I think the state would prefer that I vote in this case)

This is not a question of what the state prefers. It is forbidden by law and that is it. Although morally I do not see this as a problem, and if it involves a significant abrogation of the Torah, then at least on a moral level there is certainly justification for it.

Isn't Kant related to the story? After all, if everyone goes to vote at polling stations like this, I assume they'll cause problems. After all, that's why the state doesn't allow it.

I have written more than once that the categorical imperative is like one of the players on the field. It can be violated if no one is really hurt and if its observance creates damage, suffering, or a heavy price.
