What is the source of your morality?
The rabbi wrote that halakha and morality are separate things, so what is the source of your morality? Your conscience? But there are people with a different conscience than yours, and different morality, and they can do something immoral that they think is moral. This shows that listening to conscience is not the source of morality. What does the rabbi think?
Wow. So many errors in one small section.
What is the source of your halacha? God? But there are people with a different interpretation of halacha and they can do something that contradicts halacha and think it is God’s will. This shows that listening to God is not the source of morality.
What is the source of your law? The state? But…
1. You must clarify what you mean by “what is the source of morality”? What gives it validity? Or how do I know what is moral and what is not? These are two different questions.
The source of the attack is God. How do I know what is moral? From my conscience.
2. For others, the source of validity is different (the person, society) and they are wrong about this. See column 456.
3. Others have different consciences than mine. So what? They are probably wrong. The fact that there are different opinions does not mean that there is no one truth.
4. So how do I conclude that I am right? See columns 247-8.
This is my opinion in a nutshell.
