Free choice

Hi, Shalom Rabbi, can there be free choice without a soul component? I had an argument about this with a friend. He claimed that there is, because he feels that there is, and that there could simply be something (which is still considered matter) that we haven't discovered that causes us to have free choice. I'm interested in your opinion.

You ask whether, according to the known laws of physics, a material object can have a choice? In my opinion, no.

Can you direct me to where you wrote about this in more detail?
