Hello Rabbi Michael,
In the coming days I am expected to be discharged from permanent service in the army, and I wanted to take some time off (at least a few months) before looking for a job to study Torah a little. The question is, is it permissible for me to take unemployment benefits from National Insurance during this time (both halachically and morally)? I may also have to sign a statement stating that I will try to look for and find a job.

You certainly can't sign if you don't really look for a job. And even taking one seems problematic to me. If you can really look for it and sit down to study until you find one, there's no problem, of course.

The new edition of the trilogy has now been released in paperback, which includes many corrections, but these are mainly printing corrections and there are no substantial changes.
