Lighting the Yom Kippur candles

שו”תCategory: HalachaLighting the Yom Kippur candles

1 It is written that it is permissible to light candles on Yom Kippur, since it was permitted for the purpose of providing food for a soul, which is permissible, but it is not permissible for a person to light candles on Yom Kippur. For the purpose of a mitzvah, it is prohibited. According to the 7th day, when lighting candles is not a light, because there is enough light, is it forbidden to light candles on Yom Kippur?
2 According to those who believe that electricity is subject to the law of fire, is it permissible to light candles using electricity?

  1. Do you mean lighting candles for no reason, not for the purpose of the Yom Tiv candle mitzvah? When it is not for any reason at all, it is certainly permissible to light them. Even in their time, it was forbidden.
  2. Some rabbis allow lighting with electricity. From a legal perspective, it is certainly permissible, but the custom is to light with regular candles.

1. For the purpose of a mitzvah. A mitzvah need is not called a need, in the past they would light a lamp for the purpose of a mitzvah that would prevent darkness in the house and cause him to stumble in ignorance in his house.
Today there is no such concern, in any case, the mitzvah remains [a reason that does not invalidate a regulation], but in the day of the month it is forbidden to light a lamp and they will have to light a lamp from the day of the month
