Hi Rabbi,

Following our discussion today, I wanted to ask a few questions regarding the observance of mitzvot.

1. Just as there are arguments that confirm Jewish traditions and their truth, there are also arguments that undermine them and cast doubt on them, both stemming from logic from a rational intellectual position, (mostly). Is the matter of deciding whether to observe a commandment or not to observe a commandment, then based on a matter of perspective, belief?

2. Also, if the matter is indeed a matter of mere belief, is belief an emotional or intellectual thing?

3. If faith is an emotional thing but is it consistent with the brain as a determining factor?

You need to define what a matter of religious perspective is. In my opinion, there are no such animals. There is logic and reason and that’s it. If you have come to the conclusion that there is a God, you believe, and if not – then no. Faith is not a deductive device but the result of logical and rational reasoning. In the first semester, we dealt a lot with these points. In my opinion, faith is our ability to perceive truths directly, that is, intuition is the faith faculty. Intuition is the basis of our basic assumptions, and a logical argument is always based on basic assumptions, which themselves are based on intuition (=faith). Therefore, logic does not contradict faith and is not a substitute for it. In my opinion, faith is a mental faculty that does not have to be connected to God. Science is also based on faith (=intuitive basic assumptions). I have written several articles and books on this. All the best,
