Providence stories

שו”תCategory: faithProvidence stories
asked 4 years ago

Sometimes we hear about providential stories (from reliable sources) that are thought-provoking. That is, the coincidences in them often raise eyebrows and sometimes even amaze. So true, it is impossible to prove with complete logical proof that the hand of providence was at work here, but on the other hand, there is a feeling of stubbornness when you try to think that it was a coincidence.
What is the attitude towards such cases?

No relation. Each story is unique. If there is a reasonable alternative explanation (not that it is just a case with a probability of 0) then there is no reason to accept that there is providence here. And if there is no explanation then yes. Feelings are very misleading in such cases. I would not ignore them but I would not get too excited about them either.

Ariel asked:
You wrote that if there really is no alternative explanation then it can be attributed to providence. Did I understand correctly? That is, according to your opinion, are there cases of providence even today?

My answer:
I am open to all possibilities. It seems to me that there is usually no active divine involvement. But if I am presented with evidence, I hope I will be honest enough to admit that there is. What I wrote is that the claim for involvement has weight if there is no reasonable alternative explanation.
