Where to start
Hello Rabbi,
I want to start studying Gemara with a Jew who has no background in learning, with the goal that within a short time (as much as possible) he will be able to study on his own at the level of Gemara Rashi.
Which pages should you start with?
I’m actually looking for pages that contain many of the basics of the study methods. Where is there a collection of such pages?
thanks

I don’t think that’s the consideration, and I also don’t know how to point to concentrated pages. Keep in mind that if you study ten or twenty pages, he won’t know how to study. You’re supposed to start, and it’s not your job to finish. It’s common to start with the depositor or those realities, and I might be able to start there. But it really doesn’t seem to matter to me. It’s possible that the consideration is precisely what will speak to him, and if you know him, try to appreciate that.
You are also mixing two goals here: 1. That he should know how to study Gemara and Rashi on his own. 2. That he should know the foundations and methods of study. These are two different goals, and both are important, of course. For goal 1, it is actually worth starting with easy levels.
