Zion rejoices in her daughters.

Rabbi Michi Shalom Rav! A couple asked me that whoever recites the blessing “May Zion rejoice in its children” add “and its children.” I know what he brought here from the vendor’s powder, but I don’t know if it can be trusted, especially since I couldn’t find it in the vendor’s powder. That doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t found, but I couldn’t find it. I also wrote to the author of the book to ask, but he didn’t answer. He may have WhatsApp but doesn’t use it.

Anyway, what does your honor think?

Hello. Personally, I’m not really enthusiastic about such a change. In Bani’ah it was said about everyone, since in Hebrew the masculine is also used to describe a common group of genders. Therefore, the change is stupid and unnecessary. But on a halakhic level, it seems that there is room for permission. First, a Mishnah from Tofs came out according to Ram against Rabbi Yosei, like whom most of the Rishonim ruled. Even Rabbi Yosei has opinions that this is a significant change in which a substantial detail in the blessing is changed, and not a literal change of words. Third, according to the Rabbi, the change is only disallowed in a closed list of blessings (and this is not one of them). Finally, this is an addition of a word after the blessing (as the Gra’s students used to add: “And concerning the economy, the Gaon said not to say”), and it is doubtful whether this is a change. All of this is applied here with regard to the law of rabbis who have reached the point of being co-opted. I found a nice overview of the topic here: https://www.etzion.org.il/he/halakha/orach-chaim/prayer-and-blessings/%D7%94%D7%9E%D7%A9%D7%A0%D7%94-%D7%9E%D7%9E%D7%98%D7%91%D7%A2-%D7%A9%D7%98%D7%91%D7%A2%D7%95-%D7%97%D7%9B%D7%9E%D7%99%D7%9D-%D7%91%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%9B%D7%95%D7%AA
