The ceasefire in Lebanon

It’s hard to know. It makes sense to reach an arrangement (if only so we can focus on Gaza, as I wrote in column 678), but I’m very skeptical that we will actually meet the conditions we set (if we set them at all. I’m not sure). I’ve read all sorts of descriptions of Strok and Smotritz who supposedly set demands as a condition for their agreement. These are, of course, blatant lies designed to please their angry base. For example, that a house that the IDF destroyed should not be rebuilt. Or that all the achievements should be preserved (what does that even mean?). The question is what will happen in practice. It is very likely that there will be a creeping devaluation back to the previous situation. We’ll wait and see.
