Question about prophets

שו”תCategory: faithQuestion about prophets
asked 11 months ago

Hello, I wanted to ask what you think about the existence of the prophets described in the Scriptures. Do you think they really had a connection with God and did they perform miracles as described? Do you extend your argument that justifies belief in the Mount Sinai event (a combination of the argument of witness, and a priori belief that there must be revelation) to these events as well because they are part of the tradition? If some do, I’m interested in what they are and why.
Thanks in advance.

This is the implication of a priori belief: after I concluded that there was a giving of the Torah, the Torah itself says that prophets would be sent to us.

Perhaps this justifies the belief that prophets will be sent to us, but does it justify the belief that these are the prophets who were sent?

Logically, this is certainly a correct distinction, but after knowing that there are prophets, their status of examination is easier. You have to make sure that he is not a liar or a charlatan. This is completely different from an examination when the starting point is that the entire concept of prophecy does not exist. Such an examination should be much more rigorous.
