Whistleblowing to the media

שו”תCategory: HalachaWhistleblowing to the media

Hello Rabbi,
A senior municipal official who is carrying out illegal construction and a host of other stunts. And a little terrorizing the neighbors, can he be reported to the media?
The emergency authorities are cooperating with him. And there is not enough money, nor even a little fear, to start a tedious legal process.
A friend he wrote to is willing to take the story on him.

I don't know, what about slander, even about the truth?
Anyone who opens a life-changing event should be afraid, right?

And when you call the police and inform them that there is a thief in your house, isn't that slander against the truth? That's the only way for you to prevent the theft of your property!! What's with that and slander?? Apparently it's said about this that “Don't be too righteous”.

Of course, one must be careful with all halachic conditions. For example, not to overdo it.

I can testify that I once went to the media and they explicitly asked me to exaggerate.
So be careful.
