A personal question about the rabbi

I’m curious about how the rabbi began to engage in philosophy.
What brought you to this?
The “regular” rabbis that I know do not engage in philosophy, but at most in what is called “Israeli thought,” so how did the rabbi come to engage in this, from his studies in a yeshiva or perhaps from academia?
