A. Why didn’t the sages write a history book when it’s so obvious! Did they want to hide something?
(Especially after they disallowed the reading in the Book of Maccabees)

Why would they write history books? It’s really not in our culture. I think history books are an innovation of the Greco-Romans.

A. Why didn't the sages write and the prophets did?
Because the books of the Bible are historical books.
B. What did the Greeks and Romans want to achieve by writing history?

A. The prophets did not write history books either. They described events that they believed had educational-religious value, not pure historiography.
B. I think not. That is precisely their innovation. History for history's sake.
