Small wedding

ResponseCategory: HalachaSmall wedding

Hello Rabbi Michael,

I wanted to ask you whether, from a halachic perspective, it is permissible to hold a small wedding ceremony at the rabbinate (and not in a wedding hall with a feast and dancing). Or is it perhaps obligatory to hold a mitzvah feast, and for there to be music and dancing at the wedding?

Best regards,

There is no obligation for music and dancing. A mitzvah meal, yes, it is desirable to have ten (also for the seven blessings). Also during the Kiddushin ceremony itself, it is highly desirable to have ten (I think this is a rabbinical obligation, or at least an important and correct custom. I haven't checked now).

Asks:
Can the mitzvah meal be held in a separate restaurant? Or does it have to be in the same place where the Kiddushin is performed and with those who participated in the Kiddushin ceremony?

Rabbi:
It's possible in a separate place. No problem.
