Ballad for a Discarded Baby (Ketubot Tu:)
Desert Gift – 1998
Once upon a time, four brothers were talking.
A wise man is a fool, and those in Sheol do not know.
The wicked king, whose name is Korah,
Let me tell you about Moses' leadership of his people.
An incident involving a baby found abandoned
On a small street on the outskirts of the village
And the inhabitants of that volume were brothers
All are sons of the father of a multitude of Gentiles.
But alas, after a statistical test was conducted
Didn't rise to his long blow
Because among those good and dear residents
Only half were Jews
That baby grew up and walked on the Sabbath in the public domain
And he did not wear his cloak even with a fringe of scorn.
And suddenly a wave fell on him.
The Ashkenazim told him to keep an eye on you, we can't do it.
Please go to the courtyard of the followers of Maimonides.
And all the days require only their good.
That they are also raising waves for Jewish suspects
And unlike us who are not among the wealthy
But know this, our brothers, they added and said,
Because your troubles are not over yet.
Even those of us who do not rule like the Rosh
You cannot claim your loss from them.
When he was saved and asked them to keep his life alive
They told him we could not do this.
We are not students of Maimonides.
If you want to live again, go to their yard.
And when this baby arrived to those hospitable hosts
They told him that they too, like their Ashkenazi brothers, were in Mammon.
Strict to get out by all methods.
After all, scholars of wisdom promote peace in the world.
And when Kim claims that I am allowed to live
Send him to the Gentiles or to the zoo.
But the Gentiles, whose souls are known to be cruel,
They fed him breakfast and dinner every day.
Then his Jewish brothers said to him,
Don't come to our congregation, son of Zadim.
After all, who allowed you to eat carrion?
Even if when you are tired, you will pay half the price.
When he grows up as a baby and becomes a boy
His soul was tempted to study the Torah of God with sorrow.
The guards who were surrounding the city chased him away.
Let no one enter here whose mouth and heart are not equal.
Torah commanded us Moses, the Authorized
And to you she is forbidden as a virgin from her wedding.
He immediately found an open opening (in the fence!)
And flee from all that the wind drives us.
But even then, while on the street, he was looking for advice.
The guards rebuked him, saying, 'Abolition of the Torah!'
He considered it unfortunate to hasten the end
And they said to him, "Truly, you are a Gentile, but you are not a tree."
It seems that this is the story of the action.
Korah's slander is largely similar to
But know this, my dear brothers and friends.
Because this is the version for those who only read the book.
For whose heart is not engrossed in the reading of the deed?
The Lord will not despise the poor and needy.
