2 questions: 1. Winer filling 2. Sand studies

שו”תCategory: Halacha2 questions: 1. Winer filling 2. Sand studies

Hello Rabbi, I have 2 questions (unrelated to each other)
1. Is it permissible to fill out a winner form like it is permissible to fill out a lottery ticket, or is it considered a game of chance? [A winner is a form where bets are made on sports results]
2. Regarding secular studies – does the rabbi view secular studies (i.e. the physics you studied) as something of independent value or as something that assists in the study of Torah (by becoming familiar with different thinking styles, etc.), and assuming that I see my future in Torah – is it worth investing in secular studies as well? thanks

  1. In terms of reference law, there is room for improvement. But the poskim wrote that it helps those who commit a crime (desecrating Shabbat through games). Therefore, another lottery (lottery) is preferable. Especially since the lottery money is also more beneficial to the community. In general, it is a shame for the individual to buy lottery tickets at all because the chances of winning are zero.
2. It has value for developing thinking, even if not always useful for classical Torah study (understanding the ketzot). In my opinion, it is more important for those who dedicate themselves to Torah study. Those who devote time to Torah – I wrote here not long ago – that it is better for them to focus on the Haftza Torah (ketzot).
