abortion
Hello Rabbi Michi,
A friend of mine got pregnant by her non-Jewish boyfriend, and is currently planning to have an abortion. She is about five weeks into her last period. I wanted to ask if there is a side to allowing an abortion. From her perspective, the financial aspect is bothering her.
Thank you, A.
In my opinion, there is no side in the world that allows abortion. If there is a financial problem, one should think about how to solve it, but that does not permit murder. Although halakhically, the prohibition is lighter for a fetus up to 40 days old and a little more severe up to three months (although, as far as I know, no rabbinic ruling permits abortion for financial needs even at these ages). But morally, in my opinion, it is completely unacceptable.
