An experience they can’t stand.

שו”תAn experience they can’t stand.

Hello Rabbi,
We often hear that God does not put us through a trial that we cannot withstand, but unfortunately, from my past experiences, I have experienced many trials and struggles that I could not withstand. I am talking about periods when I was very religious and strong in faith, and as a result, I became very weak because I understood that there is really nothing behind this statement and the implication from this is that God is not truly watching over and responsible for our reality.
I would like to know the Rabbi on this matter.

It’s a shame that people spread baseless and unfounded myths, and it’s no less a shame that other people take them seriously and without criticism. Beyond the question of whether he puts us through trials and what trials, there is the question of his involvement in the world in general. My system is that there is probably no, or almost no, involvement. I have detailed this in many places. See, for example, columns 280, 298, 463, and more. And regarding a decline in faith, if you don’t believe in superstitions, there is no reason to weaken in faith. In other words, weakening in superstitions is an advantage, not a disadvantage. In short, according to your description, you have actually strengthened in faith, not weakened.
