The rabbi describes R. Akiva’s sermon on Nida as proof that there are creative sermons… I wanted to know what kind of study he did there against the early elders? It seems he simply interprets the verse differently.

I didn’t understand the question. You’re asking what degree of “derash” he used, or was it “derash” at all? It’s certainly possible that this is a simple interpretation and not “derash” (the boundary is not always clear). It’s clear that from the wording of the verse itself, this doesn’t arise. In any case, he is certainly creating a new law by virtue of this interpretation.
