Appeal to authority in the interpretation of Halacha
During my last study at the Havratu, the question arose in my mind when reliance on the words of Chazal turns from a simple explanation into a logical fallacy.
How, in Torah study, can a clear logical boundary be drawn between appealing to authority in a way that is not a logical fallacy and one that is?

There is no buffer. The question is whether the interpretation is correct or not. You can be convinced that the interpretation is correct by relying on someone’s wisdom or understanding. How much you rely on it and how to evaluate wisdom is a matter for each of us for ourselves.
