Asking for rain when it’s not needed
Rabbi, as I understand it, we are no longer dependent on rain, since there is already so much water that desalinizes the water for the Sea of Galilee, and so we no longer have to worry about the water level.
The question is, is there a reason to pray for the rains? If we no longer depend on them.

Does the rabbi pray out of obligation? If so, and this is a personal question, then if you are comfortable answering it, how do you experience prayer? As suffering... meaningless mumbling... actually connecting... and isn't it difficult to live like that if the experience is difficult and pray three prayers a day?
I don't experience anything. I say it because I have to.
