Attitude towards secularists
Rabbi, I feel hurt that people are laughing at religion. I am saddened by this incorrect attitude that stems from a deep misunderstanding. Is something like this worth addressing? And how should we address such things? Should we try to respond or try to bring about reconciliation?
In many cases we earn it honestly, unfortunately. But take a breath and gather a little sense of humor. Nothing happened, the dogs bark and the caravan passes. It’s the way of Muslims to be offended by anyone who comes down on Muhammad (and then kill him). A Jew knows how to laugh at himself a little.
Obviously, you should try to bring everyone you can together. But be careful to do it tactfully, otherwise you’ll provoke more of this kind of laughter.
