Blessing of the Creator of the Lights

שו”תBlessing of the Creator of the Lights
asked 1 year ago

Hello,
Why is the blessing on the Creator of the Lights so significant in prayer? It is relatively long, contains praise and thanks that are specifically linked to the creation of the lights, and after all, we can praise God for so many things in His world. Why is the praise on the lights so extensive, and why is this content part of the blessings before reciting the Shema?
If this is not the place for such a question, I would be happy to provide references where I can read about it.
thanks

I have no idea. Maybe it’s because people once worshipped these lights and saw them as gods, so we want to emphasize that God created them too to serve us. From this it is clear why it is placed before KSH, which is the uniqueness of God and the acceptance of the yoke of His kingdom.

For the heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands.

Here, during the lesson, interesting points in the blessing of the Creator of the Lights and in the context of the prayer, "May you come, Elul and Reh," from Rabbi Baruch Rosenblum
