Breaking a glass

Hello Rabbi,
At my workplace, many people smoke and drink coffee on the emergency stairs,
One day there was no one there and while I was rushing I stepped on a broken coffee can that was lying on a step below me.
A few minutes later I saw the owner of the glass with a broom but continued as usual. Do I have to inform him that I am the pest or pay him?
Because how can you be afraid that there will suddenly be a glass if there is no one nearby? On the other hand, this is a place where people usually drink coffee and have a cigarette. But most of the time, they are near the glass if they place it on the stairs…
