Candles

שו”תCandles

Peace, Your Honor,
Is it obligatory for a guest (married/single/married without his wife) who is hosted for a Shabbat night meal where the host lights a blessing to light a Shabbat candle in their guest room or in their home if they return to it?
In a hotel/yeshiva, is it obligatory for everyone to turn on lights in the rooms, even if someone turned on lights for everyone at the dining area?

All of this should be discussed carefully, since in simple terms the obligation is to have a candle lit in one’s home, and at most, one should share a penny with the Ba’ab. But the custom that I know of is that the guests light and bless as well. For a summary of the laws, you can see here: https://www.yeshiva.org.il/midrash/43431
