Change of authority

Hello Rabbi Michi
If it were to be imagined that a new movement in Judaism would arise and interpret the Torah of Israel in a unique way that differs from the Sages, and it would threaten to sweep after it the majority of the Jewish people and even take over centers of power in or on the country… would it then be possible to say that there is a new authority and acceptance here that uproots the previous authority and acceptance of the Sages?
