Civil war
Shalom Rabbi Michi
Do you think we are on the way to a civil war between religious and secular? It seems inevitable. We must thank God that no blood has been shed to this day in Beit Shemesh, Ashdod, Arad, and at the roadblocks of the Jerusalem faction.
Do you think a person like Ron Kobi is the result of religious coercion? I personally believe that this situation serves quite a few politicians and businessmen (from both sides) who make money and power from it. What do you think?
I don’t know what exactly a civil war is (shooting each other?). There is already a struggle, and I don’t know how far it will escalate, if at all. It is clear that some are making political capital out of it, but there are also real and substantive motives in the dispute that are difficult to resolve. Not everything is self-interested.
I don't think it will come to shootings
But I definitely see a scenario of secular organizing against Haredi demonstrations, which could end in bloodshed. It's simple to me that what needs to be done to prevent this is to completely eliminate the element of coercion (you don't even need to separate religion and state for that) when secular people will be able to use public transportation on Shabbat as they wish or sell beer on Passover without receiving fines, etc. None of them will care that an event for Haredi is held separately from public funds.
What do you think?
I don't think so. On the contrary, such a victory would only increase the motivation to impose. But this is futurism and I see no point in discussing it.
