Class action lawsuit in court

שו”תCategory: HalachaClass action lawsuit in court
asked 8 years ago

In my opinion, the public has no interest in the details of the case and the affidavit, so they were deleted. This is a class action lawsuit on behalf of a group of victims of a dating site that did not provide proper service and refuses to refund money to those who repent, which is allegedly against the law.

The wording of the question that appeared after the affidavit:

(In my personal opinion, I think it is a mitzvah to do this for the public good)
It is important to me to know what the Rabbi’s opinion is on the matter of whether this is halachically okay?

Is there a halachic problem with filing a class action lawsuit?

If the question is about going to court, I think there is no problem even if the website agrees to go to Torah law. If the question is about class actions, I don’t see it as a problem. The law allows it, and therefore there is no halakhic problem. These are property laws (contracts and torts), and they are conducted according to the law. Indeed, if you help other potential victims, you are also fulfilling the commandment of Shabbat Avidah and will not stand for the blood of your neighbor. Good luck to whoever is right.
