Compromises in Halacha
You wrote that you had to swallow some halachic frogs in order to participate in a conference on free choice.
The meta-halakhic issue of compromising halakhic principles for the sake of external needs has been of interest to me recently. I would love to know which frogs the rabbi is talking about and what considerations were involved.
I would be happy for an answer even if it concerns halachic and not external considerations.
The lecturers used a projector, and some on the panel used a microphone. I made sure they brought Tsmet’s, but there was only one of them. And I don’t think Tsmet’s permit is wide enough either.
I didn’t ask when the respondent was using a regular microphone. I myself spoke on weekdays, and on Shabbat without a microphone at all.
And there is still a problem with collaborating with such an event, even if it is halachically permissible. If I didn’t see the importance of my participation, I wouldn’t go.
By the way, before the conference I felt I was touching on the matter, so I asked the opinion of two Jews whom I greatly respect. They both approved. And don't ask their names, because I won't answer.
