Considerations when choosing a partner
Hello Rabbi Avraham,
Regarding matters of matchmaking and choosing a partner, do you think it is legitimate to set high threshold requirements for a partner intellectually? Or perhaps because women’s way of thinking is different from men’s, is this an unrealistic expectation? And in general, is the partner’s intellectual level a significant factor in the success of the relationship?
I have no idea. Each to their own taste and inclinations. Indeed, in my experience, women are less interested in philosophical and abstract questions, but that does not necessarily mean that their intellectual capacity is lower. The areas of interest are different. See my response to Ayla in column number 16 (almost at the bottom of the page).
