Corona compared to the flu

שו”תCorona compared to the flu

What does the rabbi think about Professor Yoram Les’s opinion on the issue of dealing with the coronavirus?
He claims it is no more dangerous than the regular flu and that there is no need to impose restrictions because of it.

I don’t have a clear position. I myself referred to this article on Talkback for a column on the coronavirus. I tend to think the same way, but flattening the curve is a significant consideration (in comparison to Italy’s 800 deaths in one day). See my additional reference there to Yoram Yuval’s words on the matter, which says similar things.

I couldn't find the link to Yoram Yuval's words. Where are they?

You wrote that you agree with Yoram Les's words, but flattening the curve is a significant consideration.

If the only goal is to flatten the curve to ease the burden on hospitals, there is another solution.

Temporary hospitals can be set up and increased teams can be recruited to treat all the patients who arrive at the same time. I am sure that strengthening public health will be easier and cheaper for the state than a general shutdown of the entire economy for such a long period.

On the 2nd of this month, 2017

To Israel, greetings,

As long as there is a widespread shortage of tests, it is not possible to separate carriers and patients, and therefore the entire population is treated as a 'carrier supply'. When they succeed in importing or producing hundreds of thousands of test kits, it will be possible to isolate and treat carriers and patients. It seems that most of them will be treated at home, and for those who need treatment in a hospital, appropriate frameworks will be found. In one of my responses in the column on the 'Corona Crisis', I mentioned an interview with Dr. Zvi Marom, who says this. And your comment: Salvation will come from above 🙂

With best wishes, Zvi

And if we mentioned Dr. Zvi Merom, let us recall that the poem of the deer in the chapter of poetry is the verse: ‘And I will sing of your strength and sing praises to the morning of your lovingkindness..’ (Psalms 55:17). This verse was recommended by the Rabbi Tzahalon on behalf of the Ari to be recited to stop the plague after the ‘Fattening the incense’.

This virtue – not losing the sense of security and joy even in times of trouble and worry – is also rationally beneficial. A good mood strengthens the immune system. The confusion that follows worry often leads to not seeing effective solutions that are ‘under our nose’, and when we get out of the ’mental mess’ – the path to solving difficult and complicated problems is easy.

Best regards, Sh’ Zvi Ron-Gil

A.
What do we care who is infected or not? We are talking about the British model, so it is better for us that everyone is infected, so that they are vaccinated and the public benefits from herd immunity.
When following the British model, there is no need for testing at all.
B.
Even in a non-British model, a person can come out clean today and become a carrier tomorrow, and therefore the entire population must be under quarantine.
Testing can help a person who is required to isolate and wants to go outside, or a sick person whose doctors want to verify what his illness is in order to know how to treat him and whether to separate him from healthy people.
In short, the tests do not reduce the need for quarantine on the population in a non-British model.
C.
Can you provide the link to the above interview?
D.
Regarding your sign, "Salvation will come from above," someone who said this already said today: "The answer lies in the Weizmann Institute."
