Determinism and meaning
Hello Rabbi/Doctor Michael Avraham. What is the meaning of life for a deterministic person? What is the motivation to continue living as a determinist? If a person is a determinist, he is simply “experiencing” the events that were decreed for him by some higher power (religious or secular). It’s more or less like watching a movie of your life. Your lack of involvement in your own life is a crazy absurdity. How can you live an absurdity?
This is a question in psychology and should be addressed to a psychologist. But I don’t understand what’s so difficult. The determinist sees the world as dictated by various forces. The will to life is also created by them. After all, he doesn’t decide on his desires, so I don’t see why he would have any despair. According to him, it depends on the way he is built.
Still. There is a life here that is empty of meaning. A person who adopts the deterministic view will certainly adopt apathy towards his actions - the moment he does something bad he can excuse it by saying that he did not really choose it. What is evil anyway (in your opinion)? What are human rights?
Again, he doesn't "effort" anything. He is what he is.
In any case, it seems to me to be a total absurdity, on the one hand, to live with intention and choice, and on the other hand, to know that you are just a "vessel" through which what has already been decided passes.
“Living with intention and choice”? I lost you
I meant to live with the feeling that you choose.
The feeling is also forced on you. You keep mixing up the levels of discussion.
